DIRT CANDY by Cynthia Catera

A decadent evening at Dirt Candy! Yes, the name says it all....a Vegan's dream come true! Who knew veggies could taste so elaborate? After an 8 course tasting menu, I was in sensory overload!

FASHION EXPEDITION by Cynthia Catera

It's the final frontier, the frigid cold where few have ventured....only those with extreme wanderlust for the unknown and the unexplored.

And to those of us less adventurous, we explored it all at FIT's Expedition, highlighting some of my favorite designers, Hussein Chalayan, McQueen, and Comme des Garcons. From Space, to the Artic, with hits of retro past and futurism, this exhibit was beyond exhilarating and inspiring, right down to the glacier ice caps and space pod :)

FASHION & PHYSIQUE by Cynthia Catera

The reason I began a career in Fashion, was the mere fact of TRANSFORMATION. As a teen in Ohio, my life was a little more on the bland side. So for me, fashion was a creative outlet, a way I could express myself. And I had ALL the phases: Preppy, Goth, Raver, Vintage and all these "identities" dissolved into my own personal style:) Fashion equally has a way of transforming the actual physicality to the body. For years, women put themselves in corsets to reach the destined 13" waist which defined beauty and acceptability by men. And these shapes ebb and flow with the times: the relaxed look of the 20's, the hourglass with Dior's New Look, and the dynamic shoulders of the 80's. So where does that leave us for 2018? BODY POSITIVITY....that's where, and it's long over due! I am in absolute gratitude of designers and companies bringing visibility to the full spectrum of bodies (and genders) on runways these days.....because in the end FASHION IS FOR US ALL! :)

Here's a snap shot from the FIT Museum last month, who touch on this topic. I loved the multi-media pieces showed in the beginning of the exhibit showcasing models of all sizes and what designers are doing to make this industry more inclusive.
